Celebrate the Holidays in Albuquerque With These Holiday Events

The holiday season is in full swing in Albuquerque, but there’s still about 2 weeks left to enjoy the season’s celebrations.  If you’re looking for a new and special way to create holiday memories this year with friends and family, then these events in Albuquerque will be sure to make the 2017 holiday season one to remember.

Bugg Lights

Through December 30, 2017

A tradition for over 40 years, the Belen Harvey House Museum has been dazzling Albuquerque with over 300,000 lights in this festive display.  You’ll also find all the other trappings of the season, such as nativity scenes, 100 Christmas trees, food, crafts, music and more. Donations are accepted to help local non-profit organizations in Albuquerque.

Holiday Nature Crafts at River of Lights

December 13 and 20 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Why not make your own decorations this holiday season?  Bring your family to BioPark for a free Holiday Nature Crafts session in the Education building.  You can also enjoy the holiday model railroad and the Pal Bear Express. Best of all, the event is free!

Star Wars with the Cops

December 16, 2017, 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM @ Premiere Cinemas

Celebrate the release of Star Wars: The last Jedi with the Rio Rancho Police Department’s first-ever “Star Wars with the Cops” event.  There will be a costume contest and trivia contest.  There will be a special screening of the movie at 9:30.

Antique Lovers Unite in Albuquerque

If you love antiques, then get ready for the antiques event of the year in Albuquerque! Coming this Aug 5-6 to the Expo New Mexico State Fair Grounds is the 19th Annual Great Southwestern Antique Show. This huge antique show will benefit the New Mexico non-profit organizations that focus in enhancing arts and education in the area. You'll find over 200 dealers, making this the largest antiques show in the Southwest! There will be everything you can think of in addition to antiques - rare books,fine art, Native American & Western art, vintage guitars, ephemera, old pawn and estate jewelry and more!

The event starts with a sneak preview from 1-6 pm on Aug 4 that will donate all proceeds to the KNME PBS Endowment. Then the main event starts on the 5th. You'll enjoy learning about the art of collecting and investing in fine art and antiques. And if you have treasures of your own, bring up to 3 of them along and have them appraised from 12-3pm for $35 (limited to the first 100 donors) and proceeds go to New Mexico PBS.

Have a Happy 4th of July!

The 4th of July is just around the corner and it's time to celebrate in Albuquerque!  Here's what's in store for you this coming 4th of July to help celebrate our freedom.

Freedom 4th

The City of Albuquerque is hosting a huge celebration at Balloon Fiesta Park from 3-10pm.  Admission is free!  You'll be able to enjoy all kinds of food and drink vendors while you take in the festivities.  There's also face painting and inflatables for the kids.  And to top off the evening will be a massive fireworks display and performance by country star Clint Black!

Corrales New Mexico 4th of July Parade

What's the 4th of July without a parade?  Starting at Target Road at 10am, the parade will run through downtown Corrales to La Entrada Park.  And after the parade ends there will be a family fun day at the park with food and more.  You can also join the water fight at the Corrales Rec Center.

Enroll Your Children in the Top Schools in Albuquerque

Do you have children in high school and are planning to buy a home in Albuquerque soon? Then you no doubt want to find the best high schools to enroll your children.  U.S. News and World Report compiles a list of the best schools in each state.  They use 4 steps to grade each school.  The criteria is that students perform better than expected in their state, disadvantaged students perform better than state average, graduation rates meet or exceed a national standard, and students are prepared for college-level coursework.

Here are the top 4 high schools in Albuquerque according to this list. These schools also ranked in the top 20 list for the entire state of New Mexico.

La Cueva High

La Cueva High is rated #1 in the Albuquerque Public School District and ranked #6 in the state of New Mexico. Students have the option to take Advanced Placement courses.

Early College Academy

Early College Academy is ranked #7 in the state.  34% of students in this school take AP course work.

Eldorado High

Ranked #10 in New Mexico, students at Eldorado have a 34% participation rate in AP courses.

Cibola High

Cibola High received a ranking of 13th in the state of New Mexico, with a 33% participation rate in AP courses.
