Top Off the Holiday Season in Albuquerque

With just a week left until Christmas, there's not much time left to get in on the holiday fun in Albuquerque. There's a lot of fun holiday activities coming up over the next week, so get out there and make this the best holiday season ever! Here's a few holiday events to put on your calendar.

Holiday Pops!
Sat, Dec 21, 5 PM | Popejoy Hall

Bring the family to enjoy the NMPhil conducted by Jason Altieri for this holiday favorite featuring timeless holiday classics. They will be joined by the Manzano Day School Chorus, the Albuquerque Youth Symphony, and some special guests. The concert will also feature a traditional sing-a-long.

Join ABQ Trolley Co. December 17th-24th as they take you on a journey to see Albuquerque's holiday lights. The Trolley of Lights departs from Hotel Albuquerque at Old Town. Tours last approximately 75-minutes. Make sure to dress for 30 degree weather as this is an open Trolley, so bring blankets, long underwear, mittens, knit caps, wool socks, etc.

Spring is here, and with it will soon come the fresh fruits and vegetables of the farmer’s and organic markets in Albuquerque. It’s that time of year that all of us who enjoy the heathy great flavors of the Southwest wait for. Here’s a list of the top farmer’s markets opening soon in the Albuquerque area, along with opening dates. Set your calendars!

Downtown Growers' Market
Opens April 14

Located in historic Robinson Park on Saturdays, April 14-November 2, 8am-noon, this large market is home to over 75 New Mexican growers. They also feature live music, yoga, bike valet, and accept EBT/SNAP (and double it for you so you can be twice as healthy)!

Rail Yards Market
Opens May – October on Sundays

Celebrate the Holidays in Albuquerque

Christmas in Albuquerque is marked by luminarias, seen all over teh city, as well as tree-lighting, luminaria tours and shopping for New Mexico gifts. You can get into the spirit of the holidays, Siuthwest style, with these upcoming holiday events in Albuquerque.

Stroll Old Town
December 7, 2018

Get the holidays started right in Albuquerque with the Old Town Albuquerque Holiday Stroll at 6 p.m. on December 7, 2018. Enjoy the annual lighting of the Old Town Christmas tree, along with live entertainment and tons of shopping specials.

Twinkle Light Parade
Dec. 1, 2018

The Twinkle Light Parade is one the signature holiday events in Albuquerque. Watch floats, bands, bikes, cars, and Santa parade down East Central Avenue through Nob Hill from Washington Street to Girard Boulevard from 5 to 9:30 p.m.

Shop at the Pueblo Cultural Center

For traditional Native American gifts, there's no better place to shop than the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. On November 30, 2018, from 5 to 8 p.m. come for the annual Pueblo Shop & Stroll, lit by countless luminarias. You'll find handmade Christmas ornaments in clay, jewelry, and works of art. You can cap off the evening with a performance by the White Mountain Apache Crown Dancers. Free with museum admission.

Look at the Luminarias
Dec. 24

Walk around Old Town Plaza and experience one of the hightlights of Christmas in Albuquerque - luminarias. You can venture into the Country Club neighborhood on Dec. 24, and enjoy hot chocolate, carolers, and holiday cheer along the way. Other neighborhoods to try are Ridgecrest and North Albuquerque Acres.

Watch the Hanging of the Greens
Nov 30

Take part of this age old student tradition on Nov 30 at 5:45 p.m. at the UNM Bookstore. Carolers will move across campus to University House with a wreath for UNM's president, followed by a reception at Hodgin Hall from 6:30 to 8 p.m. UNM is also the scene of a gorgeous and large luminaria display that you will certainly no want to miss.

The community is invited and attendees are asked to bring an unwrapped children's book to place under the tree at Hodgin Hall. Books will be donated to UNM Children's Hospital.

Shop and Stroll on Nob Hill

The holiday season means lots of shopping, and what better way to get into the spirit than at the Nob Hill Shop & Stroll in early December. Central Avenue will be closed to traffic between Girard and San Mateo boulevards to make it easier to walk around the Nob Hill area of interesting local shops.

EXHIBIT: DA VINCI, THE GENIUS

New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science

The New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science hosts the extraordinary Da Vinci, The Genius exhibition created by Grande Exhibitions of Victoria, Australia in collaboration with the Museo Leonardo da Vinci, Rome, and the French scientific engineer Pascal Cotte.

This is the most comprehensive Leonardo da Vinci traveling exhibition ever assembled and is designed to be accessible to all ages.

Celebrate in Albuquerque This 4th of July

The 4th of July is just around the corner, so now is a good time to plan how you and your family will enjoy the holiday in Albuquerque. And what better place to spend independence day than in Albuquerque, where you’ll find plenty of ways to enjoy the day. Here’s a few of the 4th of July events you can look forward to in Albuquerque.

Take Me Out to the Ballgame

What could be more American than baseball and fireworks? Come to Isotopes Park for baseball as the Isotopes will take on the Tacoma Rainiers followed by a fireworks display. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. and the game starts at 7:05 p.m. Then stay for a spectacular fireworks display after the game.

Freedom Fourth

One of the largest Independence Day gatherings in the state, this annual celebration at the Balloon Fiesta field is a free event for all to enjoy.  The festivities start at 3pm and go till 10pm, featuring a beer garden highlighting local breweries. The family will have a great time with free children's activities, a food court, and several other performances, all leading up to the largest fireworks display in the state.

Rio Rancho Fireworks Event

Just a short drive from Albuquerque is the city of Rio Rancho where you can enjoy a fantastic fireworks display without the huge crowds of the Freedom Fourth event. It will be held at the Loma Colorado Park with parking at the high school, the Rio Rancho Aquatic Center, Loma Colorado Library, and Loma Colorado Park, for $5 per vehicle. Proceeds will benefit the Rio Rancho High School booster club.

The stadium opens at 6 p.m. and the fireworks show starts at 9:15 p.m. There’s also going to be live music, concessions, and activities for the kids. Admission is free, and remember to bring chairs and blankets.

The finest flamenco artists in the world come to the University of New Mexico every June for Festival Flamenco Internacional de Albuquerque, an 8 day flamenco extravaganza. The event celebrates this ancient Spanish-Gypsy art form that expresses the full range of human emotions. The festival has been drawing students and patron for over 30 years to the University of New Mexico, establishing it as the center for flamenco in the US.

DOWNTOWN GROWERS' MARKET

This family friendly market is a weekly event on Saturday at Robinson Park. One of the largest and longest running markets in the state of New Mexico, it features endless local produce, prepared food, live music, arts and crafts, and fun activities. Admission is free, but donations are welcome to keep the market an Albuquerque tradition.

Honor Those Who Serve This Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day is fast approaching, so now is a good time to plan for the weekend if you haven’t already done so. It’s also the unofficial start of summer, giving us even more to celebrate. Albuquerque is the perfect place to both remember our veterans and enjoy the freedoms they fought for. Here’s a few events we can look forward to this Memorial Day Weekend in Albuquerque and the surrounding area.

Memorial Day Ceremony at New Mexico Veterans' Memorial Park

This special Memorial Day ceremony at New Mexico Veterans' Memorial Park features patriotic music and guest speakers. The ceremony takes place from 10am – noon on Memorial Day.

Memorial Day Ceremony in Rio Rancho

This remembrance ceremony will honor both those service members and first responders from the community.  The ceremony for service members begins at 11am at the Veterans Memorial Park, featuring speeches from the mayor and military personnel.  There will be a dedication ceremony after the ceremony for the new Metro Area First Responders Monument.

New Mexico Philharmonic Concert at the Zoo

The New Mexico Philharmonic brings it’s "Hooray for Heroes" concert to the Albuquerque Biopark Zoo. You can eat your picnic in the grass while enjoying American favorites along with the Jackie McGehee Young Artists' competition winners. The concert takes place on Saturday, May 26, at 8 p.m. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. There will be pre-concert entertainment for early birds and military discounts.

Albuquerque Blues and Brews

Round out the Memorial Day weekend with Blues and Brews, featuring top blues bands and non-stop samples from local craft breweries.  Have a great time with raffles, games, a cocktail bar and much more. All this happens on Sunday from 2pm – 6pm.
